Good to know

The Spartan is a secluded escape for those who want an elevated glamping experience. This renovated vintage trailer is located on the compound at High Desert Protocol - a 6-acre hospitality community and artist retreat. Please note that the Spartan does not have wifi, but cell service in the area is strong. Tucked away from the rest of the compound, the Spartan offers true solitude when you want it, and easy connection when you don’t. Wander down to the shared pool, jacuzzi, and outdoor kitchen, or disappear into the hills behind the property, where hundreds of acres of pristine government land stretch endlessly—just as wild and breathtaking as anything in the national park. Inside, you’ll find a kitchenette, a full bed, and your own private bathroom and shower. Please note: this is an adults-only property. No one under 18 is permitted. The Pool The pool and jacuzzi span 80 feet—ideal for swimming laps, sunbathing, or soaking in stillness. The vibe is relaxed, clothing-optional, and deeply respectful. Most guests go nude in the hot tub, which is kept warm and ready each evening around sunset. We aim to foster a space of freedom, ease, and creative communion—with nature and one another. There are few rules here, but a few gentle reminders: Please rinse off before entering the pool or hot tub—no oils, sunscreen, or dirt. Be respectful, kind, and calm. This is a liberal, open environment, but we deeply value thoughtfulness. Some of our closest friends were once Airbnb guests. Others come here for complete solitude. We honor both paths—please do the same. If you have questions, reach out anytime. Be sure to read the reviews. I hope to welcome you soon. PS: There is a fire pit. You’re welcome to use it—only if there’s no wind and the weather isn’t too hot or dry. Bring your own wood and please use caution.

10/10 and will definitely be visiting again. my fiance and I stayed for 3 days and felt right at home. The location was easy to find with the directions given to us. upon arriving , we were able to easily access the sparten, which was beautiful inside and out. fresh sheets, towels, and multiple fans and even a A.C unit, I dont think its possible to list all the amazing amenties they included in our stay, but we were very happy to see that the sparten included its own personal fire pit and grill. the outdoor patio and pool/hotub were always super clean and easy to access. we enjoyed everything. thank you for creating such a beautiful space!

Nice spot for a quick getaway. The pool and jacuzzi are definitely the highlights. The trailer gets extremely hot though—even with the AC on—so it’s tough to imagine staying here in peak summer. Host was responsive and easy to communicate with.

This is a hidden desert Eden…Floating in the jacuzzi at sunset, gazing out over the immaculate 80-foot lap pool, felt less like a vacation and more like a portal into a dreamscape—one of those rare, crystalline moments where life quietly announces its own perfection. The 1950s Spartan trailer is a gem: beautifully preserved, delightfully eccentric, and unapologetically itself—rustic in all the right ways, yet supremely comfortable. The queen bed was deliciously cozy, and the collection of old Polaroids from past guests added a ghostly charm—a whispering archive of fellow wanderers who discovered this sanctuary before us. The air conditioning worked flawlessly, a small miracle in the desert heat, and we relished preparing meals in the open-air kitchen behind the pool. The trailer's compact fridge proved perfectly adequate for storing our provisions, allowing us to remain self-sufficient throughout our stay. Perhaps the most unexpected delight was the small community we encountered. Meet

I wish I could gatekeep The Spartan! This place was amazing—a 1970s time capsule! It’s a retro trailer in the remote desert, so expect dust & quirks. The trailer is old, so things don’t always work perfectly—an open mind helps. It’s basically a commune, where people share responsibilities, creating a strong community vibe. No tedious checkout rules, just a shared effort to keep it clean & unique. Dog-friendly, but watch for cacti & wildlife. The bed was super comfy, & the shower was bigger than expected. THE POOL was breathtaking! We loved it so much we stayed an extra day. The common area was super cool—you should be comfortable chatting with neighbors since things (like salt & pepper + dishes) tend to move between spaces. If you want a squeaky clean vanilla 5-star hotel, this isn’t for you, but if you’re looking to disconnect, be one with nature, & embrace your inner artist, this place is perfect. We will definitely be back.

Tao's property is an oasis of peace in the desert. This is one of my favorite stays in Joshua Tree!! Perfectly tucked away down a dirt road (that's very easy to drive down, don't get intimidated), the property is quiet, eclectic, and full of art. The trailer is so cute and vintage - a little rustic but very comfortable. We loved the outdoor kitchen and soaking in the hot tub under the stars. There are plenty of walking trails that leave straight from the property so we barely had to leave the compound. I cannot recommend this place enough!!!

I absolutely loved this place . Tao was an attentive host even though he was not there, I felt his presence everywhere. What a magical place, huge wrap around windows, the Spartan is my favorite vintage trailer design. 360° views, I could watch the wild bunny rabbits through the window in my bed, with an epic swimming pool and the Jacuzzi heats up at sunset . I had a bracing swim the length of the pool, under the stars. Soft, clean sheets and great mattress. I especially loved the hike to the far right facing the mountain, views were breathtaking. Highly recommended, I didn’t want to leave… It was I an all-around memorable experience. I will definitely be back! Thank you Tao❣️
